  • Of electrical fires and autumn

Sitting here editing my server settings for a game I suddenly begin to smell burning. More of an electric burning smell. Initially I thought my mom was doing something in here room... lit a candle or something, but it was strong. Coming from the floor area rather than wafting in from the doorway...

As I exited my room, had to rule out my computer as the cause (I've had a history of burning computers... not my fault) as I smelled it stronger in the hallway.

Come to find out, Mother had turned the heat on.

Yes It's that time of year again, folks. It happens only once. Fall finally decided to descend upon us. Sometimes seasons creep up on an unsuspecting city, but this time in Indianapolis, it dropped something like 30 degrees F in one night, locking the summer in our memory trunk. At least, I hope so. Maybe the leaves will finally turn just in time for my new lense :D.

Look at the price. High, isn't it? When I started watching this auction, it was up to $122 or so. Looking at the bidding history tells me that someone then came in and slammed $999 on there, only to be outbid by someone else with $1020! He then tops it with the winning bid you see. That looks really fishy. Only came with (as the description says) a few hundred songs... nothing special came with it...

This is going to bug me

Anyway, I did win an auction for a different iPod photo, so it's cool.

  • Okay, little pet-peeve here. People who, when they take pictures of themselves, grab the camera and point it at their face.

    Ayup.

When people take the camera and hit that pose, not only is it a arrogant weird pose, but it looks a tad like suicide. I mean, think of it. They're grasping a metal object with a cylinder pointing at their face and pushing a button almost like squeezing a trigger.

The effect is also quite disturbing. Every subjects face is deeper than it is wide, and their arms are stretched out towards you... ...but you cannot see their hands. Disturbing, no?

Quite like their hands are not in your eye-sight. That's right, they're behind you. That's right, they are almost HUGGING you. Sickening. Yes, the popular myspace profile pics need a great deal of revamping.
  • Okay, you guys. I decided to updatums! Ayup! Since I last talked to y'all i've added to my collection of "that stuff that piles up but isn't entirely useless" a camera lense.

    Storytime!:

Once upon a time, there was a child who wasn't really a child on account of his being around 17-18 years old, yet he was at the stage in life where what he wanted to do was quite clear, but the hows and wherefores were not. He would often be driving through his neighborhood with his mother for various errands. On one such occasion, his mother spied a "yard sale" which here means a place to sell your junk. At this particular "yard sale", there was more than just your average trash.

Yes, there it was in all of it's EOS glory. A lense. An image stabilizer lense. Except, this was the type with liquid for stability, and not the electronic stabilizers, pretty high-tech, none-the-less. As the sun shone on the piece of equipment, he turned it in his hands wonderingly. Meaningless numbers scrolled by on the cylinder; numbers such as 70-300 and f-2.3-5.6 (or something like that). What did they mean? It looked expensive, and the price tag volunteered the possession of the item for a mere $35.

He set the item down, not knowing how badly he would kick himself for it in a few years.

But okay, yeah, I bought a new lense. Not a big one, mind you, a good walk-around lense. 28-105mm with a UV filter. Purdy good for a mere $175, actually. the lense normally sells for around $230.00. So, I'm thinking I got a good deal. I would love a lense shade, though. I forget what they're called offhand.

Okay, and my legs are in so much pain from walking around for 4-hours at the Avon High School. :/ bye.
